People in the US and Canada spend more time indoors than 12 other countries, according to a new study.

About 25 percent of 2,239 Americans surveyed spend 21 – 24 hours a day inside, 34 percent spend 0 – 14 hours inside and the remaining 41 percent frolic indoors 15 – 20 hours a day, the data gathered by global architecture company Velux shows.

On the other side of the Atlantic, both Italians and Czechs spend the least about of time inside, with only 5 percent of 2,010 people who stay under a roof for 21 – 24 hours. Fifty-seven percent of residents in the two European countries spend 0 – 14 hours indoors and 38 percent tend to stay in 15 – 20 hours a day.

Velux surveyed 16,000 people in 14 countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland and Spain in order to raise awareness about the dangers of indoor air.
