     日前，国际学术期刊《整体环境科学》（Science of The Total Environment）在线发布的一篇研究论文中宣布，长江白鲟灭绝。

　　

     Psephurus gladius, a Chinese paddlefish living in the Yangtze River, was declared extinct, according to a paper from Chinese experts at the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute.

     该论文的通讯作者是中国水产科学研究院长江水产研究所首席科学家、研究员危起伟博士，论文的第一作者是张辉博士。该论文的预校样（pre-proof）于2019年12月23日在线发布。虽然这一消息是最近才宣布，但论文的结论是，在2005年到2010年之间，长江白鲟就已经灭绝。

The paper published on Dec 23 on the online edition of the international journal Science of The Total Environment shows that the largest freshwater fish in China might have gone extinct between 2005 and 2010.文中介绍称，早在1993年时，白鲟已经被宣布为“功能性灭绝”（functionally extinct）。

　　功能性灭绝(functionally extinct)是指该物种因其生存环境被破坏，数量非常稀少，以致其在自然状态下基本丧失了维持繁殖的能力，甚至丧失了维持生存的能力。

　　2019年9月17日，国际组织IUCN(世界自然保护联盟)专家在浙江杭州一个学术会议上报告称，经专家组评估，中国特有物种、国家一级重点保护动物长江白鲟灭绝(extinct)。

　　Wei Qiwei, an author of the paper, said that in September last year, experts from the International Union for Conservation of Nature estimated that this unique and first-class protected fish had been extinct already.

　　这是继白鱀(jì)豚(极危，CR，可能已灭绝)和长江鲥(shí)鱼被研究人员宣布功能性灭绝之后的又一坏消息。

　　It represents another animal declared extinct in the Yangtze River in recent years. The baiji, or Yangtze River dolphin, a type of freshwater dolphin, and reeves shad were both classified as functionally extinct.

　　该专家称，这一结果正在上报IUCN办公室，随后将在IUCN红色名录(《世界自然保护联盟濒危物种红色名录》)中正式更新和公布。

　　除长江白鲟灭绝外，中国特有的中华鲟、长江鲟仍被评估为“极危”等级(status)。

　　前述专家在杭州淳安县举办的一个鲟鱼国际会议上对上述评估结果进行了报告。

　　“千斤腊子，万斤象。”“象”指的是长江白鲟，据说它可以长到上万斤。白鲟体型硕大，成鱼可长达七八米，游速迅疾，被称为“水中老虎”、“中国淡水鱼之王”，它也是世界十种最大的淡水鱼之一。

　　The Chinese paddlefish is one of the world's largest freshwater fish, which can grow up to 7 meters long. It is an endemic species in China under first-level national protection.
