  "A Bite of China" is a famous documentary covering almost every aspect of Chinese cuisine in seven episodes. Not only were the famous dishes and dining techniques of Chinese cuisine introduced, but also the traditions and stories behind them were told.

  《舌尖上的中国》是一部著名的美食纪录片,用7集的内容几乎涵盖了中国美食的方方面面。《舌尖》不仅讲述了中国名菜和中国美食的烹调技艺,还介绍了它们背后的传统和故事。

  Steamed Buns

  一、包子。

  Steamed buns are deeply and widely loved in China, especially the northern Chinese people. They often have them as their main dish instead of rice. The materials and ingredients of making steamed buns are simple so that you can prepare them by yourself and make them at home.

  中国许多地方的人都非常喜欢包子,尤其是北方人。他们经常把包子作为主食,而不是米饭。制作包子的原料和配料都很简单,甚至可以在家里自己做。

  Oil Split Saozi Noodles

  二、油泼臊子面。

  Apart from steamed buns and dumplings, noodles are one of the main kinds of Chinese flour dishes. There are many cooking styles of noodles; the saozi noodle is one of the most typical kinds and specialties in Shaanxi Province. It tastes a little sour and spicy.

  除了包子和饺子外,面条也是中国一种主要的面食。面条有许多烹饪方法,而臊子面是陕西最经典的吃法之一。尝起来有点酸,又有点辣。

  Uncongealed Tofu

  三、豆腐脑。

  Uncongealed tofu is a traditional snack in China, especially in northern China. Sweet and salty are the two main tastes of uncongealed tofu. In northern China, people often eat it during breakfast, together with steamed buns, dumplings or noodles.

  豆腐脑是中国一种传统小吃,在北方尤其盛行。豆腐脑的主要口味分甜和咸两种(不把我辣党放在眼里咯?)。在中国北方地区,人们通常在早餐时吃豆腐脑,就着包子、饺子和面条还不是美滋滋?

  Drunken Shrimp

  四、醉虾。

  The taste of drunken shrimp can be directly known from its name, which combines the freshness of shrimps with the fragrance of wine. It is a popular dish in Zhejiang Province, south-east of China. The cooking methods of drunken shrimp are really simple. Put shrimps into a bowl filled with wine and other ingredients, such as peppers, vinegar and garlic.

  醉虾的味道从这道菜的名字中就可以知道,这道菜结合了虾的新鲜和酒的醇香。这道菜很受浙江人的喜爱。醉虾的做法真的很简单。把虾放进碗里,倒酒,然后加上胡椒、生姜和大蒜等调料就可以了。

  Stinky Tofu

  五、臭豆腐。

  Standing from a distance you can smell the "fragrance" of stinky tofu. The appearance is ugly and even vulgar, but its flavor has won a high praise. If you go to Hunan Province, this snack must be on your food list.

  隔老远你就可以闻到臭豆腐的“香味”。尽管臭豆腐看起来不好看、甚至是粗鄙,但是它的味道赢得了许多人的一致好评。如果你去湖南,那么你一定要尝尝臭豆腐。

  West Lake Fish in Vinegar Gravy

  六、西湖醋鱼。

  Dating back to the Song Dynasty, West Lake Fish in Vinegar Gravy was popular in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The main flavor of this famous dish is sweet and sour. After the fish has been cooked, the surface of the fish will be covered by vinegar mixed with sugar.

  在宋代的时候,西湖醋鱼在浙江杭州一带很流行。这道名菜是酸甜口味的。鱼熟了之后,表面会浇上一层酸甜汁儿。

  Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs

  七、糖醋排骨。

  Originating in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs are now popular throughout China, and has become a home cooking dish for many Chinese families. The cooking procedures of making Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs is not very complicated, and the ingredients are simple to prepare.

  糖醋排骨起源于江苏无锡,现在这道菜在全中国都非常有名、受人喜爱,许多中国家庭都会做这道美食。糖醋排骨的做法并不复杂,配料也非常简单。

  Mapo Tofu

  八、麻婆豆腐。

  Mapo Tofu is a famous dish in eight distinguished regional types of cuisine. Chuan cuisine features authentic Chinese flavored dishes, including spicy, hot, fresh, crisp and fragrant. The main ingredients of this dish are tofu, peppers, minced beef or pork.

  麻婆豆腐是八大菜系中非常有名的一道菜。川菜的麻婆豆腐口味最为正宗,可谓麻、辣、鲜、香。这道菜的主料是豆腐、辣椒、剁碎的牛肉或猪肉。
